when at a court here held 30.5.1622 Ann Coggeshal widow was admitted tenant to herself and her heirs to one messuage or customary cottage called Chewnyland and about 9a of customary land lying in Earls Colne as is clearly shown by the court roll now at this court it is shown by the homage that the said Ann Coggeshal in her pure widowhood after the last court and before this court viz 23.10.1633 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Wm Adams instead of the bailiff in the presence of Barth Clarke and Jn Clarke two customary tenants of the said manor according to the custom of the said manor the said messuage or cottage and the said 9a of land with appurtenances to the use and behoof of Thos Shepard clerk his heirs and assigns forever to whom by Roger Harlakenden his attorney and deputy the lord by his said steward conceded granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have the said messuage and other premises with appurtenances to the said Thos Shepard his heirs and assigns forever to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine but his fealty was respited and thus he was admitted tenant
