whereas at a court here held 20.4.1636 it was shown by the homage that Wm Nevill gentleman who held for himself and his heirs certain customary lands called Hobstevens containing about 23a and a half surrendered into the hands of the lord the said land with appurtenances then in the tenure of Wm Nicholls to the use and intention of his last will and afterwards he died seised thereof as is shown by the said court roll now to this court came Rich Nevill gentleman son and heir of the said Wm Nevill and he brought here into court testimonial letters of the said Wm that same group of documents approved under the seal of the ordinary bearing the date 23.12.1635 the tenor of which as far as the premises in the following words item I give to my eldest son Rich all that farm or homestead which Wm Nicholls now farmeth of me with all the lands in the occupation of the said Wm both free and copy to him and his heirs forever upon condition that my son Rich pay to my youngest son Antho at his age of twenty four years if he shall so long live the sum of 400li and also my will and meaning is that my son Rich shall be possessed of the land at his age of twenty four years if he shall so long live item I give bequeath and allot unto my loving mother mrs Mary Nevill 60li a year of lawful money to be paid her out of all my before devised and bequeathed lands and leases and the profits and rents that shall arise out of the farm towards the bringing up of all my children in learning and good nurtriture according as it is clearly shown by the testimonial letters upon which came here into court the said Rich Nevill and humbly sought admittance to whom the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said lands with appurtenances to the said Rich Nevill his heirs and assigns according to the tenor and effect of the said testament and upon the conditions mentioned in the said testament saving thereof to the said Mary Nevill and her assigns the said sum of 60li per annum to be put to the use expressed in the said testament and until the said Rich reaches his said age of twenty four years from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the customs of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and fine assessed by the court for his admittance was at 23li to be paid to the lord of the said manor or his assigns at the mansion house of the lord called Colne Priory in or upon the 20.12.1639 and fealty was respited
