whereas at a court held for the said manor 2.11.1652 it was presented by the homage that Rose Church widow since the then last court that is to say upon 24.7.1652 did surrender into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of Wm Adams in place of the bailiff and in the presence of Ralph Josselin clerk and Robt Potter two customary tenants of the said manor the same witnessing etc all those two closes or parcels of copyholds land with the appurtenances called Bearecrofts containing by estimation 4a3r more or less from and after the decease of the said Rose to the use of Wm Harlakenden esq and of his heirs and assigns forever upon condition that he the said Wm Harlakenden his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall pay unto Thos Manwood the son of Jasper Manwood and of Mehitabel his wife late sister of the said Rose the full sum of 100li of lawful English money within three months next ensuing the death of the said Rose upon his lawful demand of the same or at any time after within the term of three years and also upon condition that the said Wm Harlakenden his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall pay unto Barth Church the son of Jn Church gentleman the sum of 5li of lawful English money so soon as he shall attain to his age of twenty one years upon his demand of the same and shall likewise pay to the said Barth Church the before recited sum of 100li mentioned to be paid to the said Thos Manwood if the said Thos shall happen to die before the time limited and never come to demand the same in the meantime or within the term of four years next ensuing after the death of the said Rose and upon condition that the said Wm Harlakenden his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall pay to Jane the wife of Toby Cressner kinswoman to the late husband of the said Rose her heirs or assigns the full sum of 5li of lawful English money within one month after the decease of the said Rose upon lawful demand of the same and shall also pay to Margt Sawkins maid servant to the said Rose or to such servant as shall dwell or be with her at the time of her death 10li of lawful English money upon lawful demand of the same as by the rolls of the said cited court it doth and may appear which said two closes of land with the appurtenances called Bearcroft late of Robt Knight the said Rose did take to her and her heirs at a court held for the said manor 17.5.1631 now at this court it was presented by the homage that the said Rose since the last court that is to say upon 20.12.last died and thereupon the said Wm Harlakenden being present in court desired to be admitted tenant to the said two closes or parcels of land to whom the lord of the said manor by his said steward did grant and deliver thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said two closes or parcels of land with the appurtenances to the said Wm Harlakenden his heirs and assigns upon the conditions aforesaid of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs due etc and he gave to the lord for his fine
