to this court came Wm Harlakenden esq customary tenant of the said manor and by the rod surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of his said steward one parcel of customary land called Spriggs Garden with a two storey house on the same with appurtenances pertaining to the free tenement called Scriveners alias Squiers to the use and behoof of Xoph Matthew of Earls Colne cordwainer and Bridget his wife and the heirs and assigns of the said Xoph forever which premises the said Wm took for himself and his heirs at a court here held 4.1.1659 upon which the said Xoph in person and the said Bridget by the said Xoph in the part of her attorney and deputy came and sought admittance as tenants of the lord for the premises to whom the same said Xoph in person and the said Bridget by her attorney and said deputy the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin thereof by the rod to have the said parcel of land and two storey house with appurtenances to the said Xoph and Bridget and the heirs and assigns of the said Xoph forever from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and they gave to the lord their fine and the said Xoph made fealty to the court
