at this court it was shown by the homage that after the last court viz 2.12.1667 Robt Mihil customary tenant of the said manor surrendered into the hands of the lord of the said manor by the hands of Jas Markham instead of the bailiff and in the presence of Robt Carter and Jn Pennock two customary tenants of the said manor the same testifying etc one messuage or tenement and one orchard called Garratts alias Mihils or other abutting upon the land in the tenure of Jn Kendall (may be Jn Kendall) on the west part and upon the king's highway leading towards Coggeshall on the east part and upon certain lands called Layers on the north part and on the land of Thos Hales on the south part after the decease of the said Robt Mihil to the use and behoof of Helen his wife and her heirs forever which premises the said Robt took for himself and his heirs at a court held for the said manor 8.4.1629 to whom the same said Helen present here in court and seeking this the lord of the said manor by the said steward granted and delivered seisin thereof by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage or tenement and orchard with appurtenances to the said Helen her heirs and assigns forever from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and she gave to the lord her fine saving the right etc
