whereas at a court here held 3.1.1637 Robt Potter was admitted to him and his heirs to a capital messuage with garden and curtilage adjoining called Sonningwells and to all that tenement adjoining called Tabors with appurtenances situate in Earls Colne and held of the manor aforesaid by copy of court roll now at this court it appeared to the homage that Robt Potter 23.10.24Chas2 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Giles Crow instead of the bailiff in the presence of Wm Harlakenden and Jn Finch two customary tenants etc the said lands to the use of Robt Potter his son and heir apparent of the said Robt his heirs and assigns forever upon which came into court the said Robt junior and humbly petitioned admittance etc to whom the steward delivered seisin to have and to hold the said messuage and tenement etc to the said Robt Potter junior his heirs and assigns of the lord etc and he gave the lord for fine etc
