whereas at a court here held 28.12.1674 Jn Fletcher and Mary his wife were admitted to them and their heirs to one parcel of land with appurtenances called Stonelayes alias Stoneleyes next adjoining divers lands called Inhams and whereas at a court here held 11.12.1677 it appeared to the homage that the said Jn Fletcher and Mary his wife the said Mary solely and secretly examined by the steward and consenting surrendered into the lord's hands by the hands of the steward the said parcel of land and appurtenances to the use of Jane Josselin wife of Ralph Josselin of Earls Colne clerk for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease to the use of the person or persons which the said Ralph Josselin by writing under his hand and seal nominates and appoints and for defect of any nomination or limitation to the use of Rebecca Josselin one of the daughters of the said Ralph and the heirs of the said Rebecca forever on the condition following that if the said Jn Fletcher and Mary his wife and their heirs executors or assigns well and faithfully pay or cause to be paid to the said Ralph Josselin his executors or assigns at the mansion house of the said Ralph situate in Earls Colne aforesaid the full sum of 42li8s in manner and form following viz 1li4s parcel of the same on 30.6.1677 and 41li4s the residue of the said 42li8s upon 30.12.1677 then next following then this surrender to be void now at this court came the said Ralph Josselin and gave the court intelligence that the said sum was not paid at the days for payment aforesaid nor any part since and the sum remains unpaid upon which the said Jane Josselin by the said Ralph Josselin her husband and her attorney or deputy in this part petitioned admittance etc to whom by her attorney aforesaid the said steward delivered seisin to have and to hold the said parcel of land with appurtenances to the said Jane Josselin and her assigns for and during the term of her life with the remainder as in the surrender aforesaid of the lord etc and gave the lord for fine etc
