at a court held 7.12.1676 Wm Boosby was admitted to one messuage plus appurtenances late Wm Davison and afterward Rich Brown and to the adjoining garden with a certain way for carrying and recarrying from the said garden to a lane called Bearcroft lane plus appurtenances and also at the same court the said Wm Boosby surrendered all his customary messuages lands and tenements held of the said manor to his last will then at the last court it was shown by the homage that the said Wm Boosby after the previous court had died seised now to this court comes Eliz Boosby widow of Wm and shows his last will dated 3.1.1679 the tenor concerning the premises in the following words first I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Eliz Boosby all and singular my copyhold messuage or tenement commonly called or known by the name of Barecroft or by whatsoever name or names the same or any part thereof hath heretofore been called with the appurtenances thereunto belonging now in the tenure or occupation of Jas Markham and Jn Christmas situate lying and being in Earls Colne keeping the said messuage or tenement with appurtenances in good and sufficient repair during the term until my son Wm Boosby shall attain unto the age of twenty one years and then the said messuage or tenement to be to my son Wm Boosby and his heirs forever but if it shall happen that the said Wm Boosby shall depart this life before he shall attain unto the age of twenty one years then it is my will the said messuage or tenement with appurtenances etc to be sold and equally divided amongst so many of his brothers and sisters as shall then be living only reserving to my wife one of the tenements which she shall best like and choose to dwell in during her natural life keeping it in repair and after her decease then to return to my son Wm Boosby if he be then living if not to his heirs aforementioned further it is my will that if it shall happen that Eliz my wife by sickness or lameness shall be in want provided my son Wm Boosby be deceased shall sell the said house for maintenance for her Eliz Boosby humbly seeks admittance etc and she pays the fine etc
