at a court held 20.3.1684 Margt Holden was admitted to one parcel land containing 20p more or less with garden adjoining messuage late in occupation of said Margt held at annual rent 4d with services at a court held 31.3.1691 said Margt was admitted to her and heirs to three crofts land containing by estimation 4a called Pitchcrofts also Pettcrofts held by annual rent 2s6d and services to this court it appears to homage that said Margt surrendered her customary lands tenements and hereditaments held of the manor to use of her last will in writing now to this court appears that Margt late died seised and that Eliz Flanner wife of Jn Flanner and daughter of the said deceased who produces in court last will of said Margt dated 18.2.1697 in following english words item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Eliz Flanner wife of Jn Flanner for and during the natural term of her life all my messuage wherein I now live situate and being in Earls Colne aforesaid with the yards gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging together with a piece of copyhold ground held of the same belonging and used held of the same manor of Earls Colne and also all the freehold messuage or tenement call d Reddings with three crofts of land called Pettcrofts also Petticrofts with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid containing by estimation 4a in copyhold now in occupation of Geo Mann (may be Geo Mann) and after the decease of the said Eliz Flanner my daughter then I will and decree the same lands both free and copyhold unto Margt Flanner my granddaughter and to her heirs and assigns forever provided always and my mind is that if the said Margt Flanner shall happen to depart this life without issue or before the premises above bequeathed to her shall descend to her by this my will then I will that the same premises shall be equally divided amongst her sisters that is to say Alicia Mary and Eliz and their several and respective heirs forever now the same Eliz Flanner who is present here in court humbly petitions of the lord admittance the lord by his steward granted delivery of seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said premises with appurtenances to said Eliz for her life and after her death to the uses in the will mentioned etc giving the lord fine for the admittance of Eliz but fine of 5li imposed to be paid for fine of Margt respited until death of Eliz and Jn Flanner who are present in this court and made fealty
