at this court it appears to homage that Jn Hatch late a customary tenant of this manor before his death to wit 5.8.1717 surrendered by rod into hand of lord by hand of Solomon Grimston then deputy steward of manor etc all and singular his customary messuages lands and tenements which he held of the manor to use of his last will in writing and on that day and year above mentioned according to his last will in writing he devised amongst others in these english words to wit item I will that my copyhold messuage or tenement called Goulds alias Gouldsgate or otherwise with all the lands and appurtenances thereunto belonging holden of the manor of Earls Colne and whereof I this day suffered a recovery shall be sold by my said loving wife Susanna Hatch or her heirs within two years next after my decease and I do hereby give unto her or them full power to sell the same and I do hereby will and devise the same unto such person or persons as is or their heirs to whom the same shall be sold as by last will plainly appears after which comes Hen Jarvis of Earls Colne yeoman and produces here in court a certain writing or deed dated 19.3.last past under the hand and seal of Susan Hatch and legally attested that said Susan according to tenor of last will of said Jn Hatch and by virtue thereof and in consideration of sum of 153li money in said deed mentioned bargained and sold to said Hen Jarvis his heirs or assigns all that said messuage or tenement called Goulds or Gouldsgate or otherwise with all lands and tenements belonging to it with all liberties and appurtenances situate in Earls Colne now or late in occupation of Wm Williamson and his assigns and held of this manor by copy of court roll to have and to hold said messuage and tenement and lands and all and singular the said premises with appurtenances to Hen Jarvis his heirs and assigns forever of the lord by the rod by will of lord according to custom of manor paying fines and services before given by right accustomed as by that deed the value therein by habit is and plainly appears and the jury sitting Hen Jarvis prays the lord etc admitted tenant to premises according to intentions of the last will of Jn Hatch and the purporting and meaning therein etc makes fealty etc
