at this court appears to homage that Wm Smith a customary tenant of this manor and also Jas Robinson and Jane his wife out of court to wit 19.10.1720 surrendered into hand of lord by hand of Solomon Grimston gentleman then deputy steward the said Jane first solely and secretly examined by the deputy steward and consenting according to custom of manor one customary messuage or tenement and certain lands called Stacyes and Wastlins with stables and buildings to said messuage belonging with appurtenances to which premises said Wm was admitted amongst others at a court held for said manor 29.3.1716 to the use of Jn Newton of Earls Colne yeoman for his life and after his death to use of Hanna his wife for her life and after her death to use of right heirs of Jn forever after which comes into court said Jn Newton in his own person and Hanna with Jn as her attorney and petition etc admitted etc to the premises giving to lords fealty
