fine 2s condition and in this present court the aforesaid Steph Smyth and Jn Brokeman the proven executors of Margery who was the wife of Jn Leteman present in court surrendered into the hands of the lord the aforesaid messuage with garden and purpresture adjoining sometime of Jn Leteman called Pagetts with appurtenances in the aforesaid Colne to the use of Rich Alderford Margt his wife Jeff Tyler and Jn Belle of Coggeshale and their heirs on the following condition viz that if the aforesaid Rich and his cofeoffees should pay or cause to be paid or any of them pay or cause to be paid to the aforesaid Steph and Jn Brokeman or either of them of their certified attorneys 17li of legal english money viz at the feast of the nativity of st john baptist next fo llowing after the date of this court 40s and at the feast of the finding of the holy cross then next following 53s4d and thus annually to be paid at the feast of the discovery of the holy cross 53s4d until the aforesaid 17li should be fully paid to the aforesaid Steph and Jn Brokeman or their certified attorneys should be satisfied and fully paid that then this present surrender and seisin thereof should stand in its force and remain and in effect and if they should default in any payment of the aforesaid payments in part or in whole at any of the feasts thereof of the aforesaid payments to be made in any year whatsoever that then truly it should be allowed to the aforesaid Steph and Jn Brokeman and their executors by licence of the lord to reenter into the aforesaid messuage with garden and purpresture adjoining and to keep it for themselves with all goods and chattels found in the same as in their former estate this same surrender and seisin thereof delivered notwithstanding etc to whom truly the aforesaid Rich Alderford Margt his wife Jeff Tyler and Jn Belle by the steward upon the condition and preceeding seisin delivered were given thereof seisin to have and to hold to themselves their heirs and assigns by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the manor by the services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed etc saving the rights etc and they gave for a fine etc and the aforesaid Rich made fealty
