it appears to the homage that Wm Carter of White Colne out of court and after the last court surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Jn Sparrowe in stead of the bailiff in the presence of Jn Woode and Jn Tilwicke tenants of the lord witnessing one capital messuage with two cottages the same messuage adjoining and annexed with a garden and curtilage to the same capital messuage and cottages and appurtenances situate lying and being at Colford Hill in Earls Colne aforesaid on the part of the east with a way there called Bercars Lane and once belonged to Wm Baxter and late of Jn Blow called Morses as by the metes and bounds is divided to the use of Jeff Carter his son of Colne aforesaid and the heirs and assigns of the same Jeff who the same Jeff in court came and petitioned admittance and because it is found by the homage therefore he is admitted tenant of the lord by the steward who delivered seisin to hold to the said Wm Clarke junior and Hen Pullein their heirs and assigns to the use of the said Jeff of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord etc and the aforesaid Jeff gave the lord the fine etc
