at the court here holden 12.9.28Eliz1 it appears that Jn Humphrey took to him and his heirs by copy of the lord's grant one cottage built upon one parcel of the lord's waste of this manor containing in length 6rod and a half and in breadth at one head 2rod and at the other 1rod1y one head thereof abutting toward the north and the other head thereof abutting towards the south and it lieth between a croft of land called Chalkenhey Croft of one part towards the east and the highway there leading from Earls Colne aforesaid toward Much Tey of the other part towards te west to hold by fealty suit of court and rent of 6d by the year and the same Jn being now required came not therefore he is in mercy 4d and the bailiff is charged to summon him to be here at the next court to show his copy and to do the lord his services due therefore etc
