6.2.1674 by a writing of that date purporting to be a copy of a deed poll duly executed by Geo Cressener of Earls Colne in Essex gentleman Jn Cressener of London grocer and Geo Cressener the younger of the Middle Temple London gentleman in the presence of two subscribing witnesses they the said Geo Cressener Jn Cressener and Geo Cressener constitute and appoint Jn Ludgator of the university of Cambridge master of arts to be the schoolmaster of the free grammar school in Earls Colne aforesaid there to teach and instruct all such free scholars of the said school in the latin and greek to ngues as have been usually there taught and to receive and take to his own use all the prerequisites and profits properly belonging to the same school for the term of five years from the date hereof if he the said Jn Ludgator shall so live and shall demean himself to our content and shall constantly in his own person attend and teach the said free scholars as he ought to do or otherwise to be put out of the place at our pleasure
