to all christian people to whom this present writing shall come greeting whereas for the security of payment of the sum of 600li by me Thos Greene of Colchester in the county of Essex gentleman lent and the interest that should be due for the same a mortgage of a certain wood called Bettinslandwood with the appurtenances herein after mentioned and other lands tenements and hereditaments was made to me by the owner of the same wood and premises for the term of one thousand years and whereas the same 600li and the interest thereof is fully satisfied and paid to me and whereas the said wood with the appurtenances is lately conveyed by the late owner thereof to or to the use of Jn Cressener the younger citizen and grocer of London and his heirs now know ye that I the said Thos Greene for the consideration aforesaid and at the request of the late owners of the said wood have released surrendered and confirmed and by these presents do release surrender and confirm unto the said Jn Cressener now being in the quiet actual and peaceable possession of the said wood with the appurtenances all that wood woodground commonly called Bettinsland Wood or by whatsoever other name or names the same to be called or known with the timber and other trees wood and underwood thereupon standing growing or being the said wood containing by estimation 38a be the same more or less and is situate lying and being in the parish of Earls Colne in the said county of Essex with all ways profits and hereditaments thereunto belonging or reputed to be appertaining and all my estate mortgage term of years right title interest claim and demand of in and to the same to have and to hold the said wood with the appurtenances unto the said Jn Cressener his heirs and assigns to the only use and behoof of the said Jn Cressener his heirs and assigns forever in witness whereof the said Thos Greene hath hereunto set his hand and seal 28.1.1681 Greene
