this indenture made the 16.5.1737 etc between Wm Towle of the parish of St Clements East Cheap London grocer and Eliz Towle wife of the said Wm Towle of the one part and Eliz Clifford of the parish of St Luke in the county of Middlesex widow of the other part witnesseth that for divers good causes and considerations the said parties hereunto moving it is hereby covenanted and grant concluded and agreed upon by and between all and every of the said parties to these presents for them and their heirs and the said Wm Towle for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth covenant and grant to and with the said Eliz Clifford her heirs executors and administrat ors by these presents that they the said Wm Towle and Eliz his wife shall and will before the end of this present easter term at the proper costs and charges in the law of him the said Wm Towle acknowledge and levy in due form of law according to the laws and statutes of this realm one fine sur congnizance de droit come ceo and so forth to be engrossed recorded and sued forth with proclamations according to the statutes in that case made and provided and the usual course of fine with proclamations in such case used and accustomed unto the said Eliz Clifford and her heirs of all that wood and woodland commonly called Bettinsland Wood or by whatsoever other name or names the same be called or known containing by estimation 32a be the same more or less situate lying and being in the parish of Earls Colne or any other parish town or place whatsoever in the county of Essex with all ways profits and hereditaments thereunto belonging or appertaining or reputed so to be by such apt and convenient name and names number of acres quantities and qualities of land and other certainties as shall be fit and requisite in that behalf which said fine and all other fines after the date of these presents levied or to be levied by the said Wm Towle and said Eliz Towle his wife to the said Eliz Clifford of the premises or any part or parcel thereof shall be and enure and shall be adjudged construed expounded deemed and taken to be and enure and are by these presents and by all the said parties to these presents declared and agreed to be and enure to the only proper use and behoof of them the said Wm Towle and Eliz Towle their heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever in witness whereof the parties first above named have to these present indentures interchangeably set their hands and seals the day and year first above written Wm Towle Eliz Towle Eliz Clifford sealed and delivered being first duly stamped in the presence of us Eliz Cressener Morris# Lowman
