this indenture made 25.3.1711 witnesseth that Isaac Potter and Jn Brewster churchwardens and Edw Johnson and Robt Sandall overseers of the poor of Earls Colne with the consent of Jn Cressener and Jn Sparrow two justices of the peace have by these presents put and bound Geo Fossett a poor friendless child as apprentice to Jn Longe (may be Jn Longe) of Braintree bay weaver and as an apprentice to dwell and serve until the age of twenty four years from the date hereof the said Geo Fossett being at the age of 17yrs during which term he shall serve his master etc and the master covenants to teach him the art or mystery of bay weaving or whatever occupation he now useth also allow him food and lodging and at the end of the term to give him two suits of apparel etc witnessed on stamped paper in the presence of Gilb Smith Jn Hatch Sam Burton Jn Longe (may be Jn Longe) justices of the peace J Sparrow Jn Cressener
