this indenture made 2.12.1714 witnesseth that Ambrose Stowers and Wm# Peartree churchwardens and Thos Tiffin and Jn Patterick overseers of Earls Colne with the consent of justices of the peace have placed Mary Haward a poor child of the parish apprentice to Thos Gray of Saxmundham Suffolk gardener with him to dwell and serve from this day until the age of twenty one years she to serve her master etc and he covenants to teach her the art of housewifery or cause her to be taught same and lodge and feed her and at the end of the term provide two suits of apparel etc Thos Gray witnesses Wm Payne Chas Mounser justices of the peace J Sparrow Jn Cressener
