this indenture made 29.5.1716 witnesseth that Ambrose Stowers and Jn Brewster churchwardens and Hen Adams junior and Joseph Bott overseers of Earls Colne with the consent of justices of the peace have placed Jn King a poor child of the said parish apprentice to Wm Marshall of the parish of East Mersey fisherman with him to dwell from this day until he is twenty four years and serve his master etc and Wm Marshall covenants to instruct his apprentice in the art of a fisherman and to feed and lodge him and at the end of the term give him double apparel etc mark Wm Marshall witnesses Sam Guyon Sam Burton justices of the peace J Bullock Jn Cressener
