this indenture made 4.6.1717 witnesseth that Jn Hatch junior and Ambrose Stowers churchwardens and Robt Harris and Jn May overseers with the consent of justices of the peace have put and placed Edw Sewell a poor child of the parish apprentice to Edw Crow of Malden labourer with him to dwell from this day until he is twenty four years (now being 18yrs) during which term he shall serve his master etc and Edw Crow covenants to instruct him in the art of husbandry and shall lodge and feed him and keep the parishioners of Earls Colne indemnified from any charges arising from him and after the end of the term shall supply the apprentice with double apparel etc Edw Crow witnesses Jn Cooke Sam Burton justices of the peace Jo Bullock Anth Collins
