this indenture made 5.9.1717 witnesseth that Jn Hatch junior and Ambrose Stowers churchwardens and Robt Harris and Jn May overseers of Earls Colne with the consent of justices of the peace have put and placed Chas Wade a poor child of the parish apprentice to Thos Cobb of Tolsbury oyster dredger with him to dwell and serve until he is twenty four years old (now aged 14yrs) and he shall serve his master etc and Thos Cobb covenants to instruct him in the art of and oyster dredger and will lodge and feed him and keep the parishioners indemnified and at the end of the term supply him with double apparel etc mark Thos Cobb witnesses Jn Cooke Sam Burton justices of the peace Jo Bullock Rich Androwes
