we Robt Prentice the elder of Great Tey farmer and Robt Prentice the younger of the same yeoman are held and firmly bound to Jn Newton of Earls Colne gentleman and Jn Hatch of the same gentleman churchwardens for Earls Colne in 50li to be paid the said Jn Newton and Jn Hatch or either etc for the true payment we bind ourselves etc 20.7.1743 condition that Robt Prentice senior and Robt Prentice junior shall at all times hereafter keep harmless and indemnify Jn Newton and Jn Hatch churchwardens and every other parishioner and inhabitant from the finding keeping and educating and bringing up for such child or children as Eliz Edwards single late of Earls Colne now goeth withall whereof the said Robt Prentice the younger is the reputed father and of and from the charges of lying in of the said Eliz etc and all actions suits costs charges troubles expenses damages and demand that then this obligation void or else to remain in full force and effect Robt Prentice Robt Prentice witness Thos Prentice Mary Day Mary Pudney
