19.12.1750 Thos Appleton of Great Coggeshall victualler and Sam Burton of Wakes Colne tailor are bound to Jn Newton of Earls Colne gentleman and Jas Robinson of Earls Colne gentleman churchwardens of the parish of Earls Colne and to Jn Leaper of Earls Colne yeoman and Thos Man of Earls Colne yeoman overseers of the poor of the parish of Earls Colne in the sum of 50li to be paid etc 19.12.1750 whereas Martha Gold of Earls Colne single on her examination upon oath taken before Robt Tweed esq justices of the peace and declared that she was big with child which when born will be a bastard and chargeable on the parish of Earls Colne and also upon oath charged the above bounden Sam Burton of being the father thereof the condition is that if Sam Burton will indemnify the above etc for the laying in etc and then the obligation void Thos Appleton Sam Burton witnesses Jn Woods Edw Howell
