the testament of Roger Hichcoke of Earls Colne in the name of god amen in 28.2.1530 I Roger Hichcoke of Earls Colne being of whole mind and good remembrance thanks be god to ordain and make my testament and last will in manner and form following first I bequeath my soul to god almighty and lady saint mary and to all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the churchyard of St Andrews in Earls Colne beforesaid also I bequeath to the high altar of the said church for my tithes and offerings forgotten and by me negligently unpaid 12d item I bequeath an furnable cow to be kept with all my obit forever in the church of Colne beforesaid to the yearly value of 16d and I will it shall be bestowed in manner following first the for doing mass and bead roll and lights 9d to the beadsman 1d to the sexton for ringing the of the bells 3d and to four poor folks 2d item I bequeath to Maud my wife my house to dwell in keeping it in sufficient reparations during the term of her natural life and after her decease I will the house be sold by mine executor and the money coming thereof I will it be divided amongst my children then living by equal portions and if it fortune that all my children be departed this present life then I will that the money of the sale of the said house I will it be bestowed in such things as be most necessary to the church of Earls Colne item I bequeath to Maud my wife all my goods movable paying my debts and fulfilling my bequests item I ordain Maud my wife and Thos Rootes be mine executors and the said Thos to have for his pains taken 3s4d in witness hereof Thos Garne (Thos Garnet ) vicar of the said Colne Wm Fynche Robt Fynche with divers others
