in the name of god amen the 12.1.1570 I Hen Prentice of White Colne in the county of Essex and in the diocese of London being sick in body but of good remembrance thanks be given to god do make my testament and last will in manner and form following first I bequeath my soul to the holy trinity the father the son and the holy ghost and my body to be buried in the churchyard in White Colne aforesaid item I will and give Joan my wife all my tenements and lands both free and copy with their appurtenances situate lying and being in the parishes of Earls Colne Colne Engaine and White Colne to have and to hold to her and her assigns during the term of her natural life and after the decease of Joan my said wife I will and give all my said tenements and lands with their appurtenances in manner following that is to say first I will and give my tenement with the lands both free and copy to the same with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Colne Engaine aforesaid to Thos Prentice the elder to have to him and to his heirs forever under condition following that he do pay and deliver or cause to be paid and delivered these sums of money and were under written within two years that is to say next and immediately ensuing his entering unto the same
(with a hand pointing to indicate omission) to my son Thos Prentice the younger 3li6s8d item to Hen Prentice my son 3li6s8d Agnes Prentice my daughter 3li6s8d item to my son Jn Prentice the elder a score of lambs and to the poor people in White Colne Earls Colne and Colne Engaine 20s to be distributed by mine executors or their assigns always upon maundy thursday equally in three years space after his entry unto the said tenement and lands item I will and give my tenement with appurtenances in Earls Colne now in the occupation of Clem Turner to Rich Prentice my son and to Agnes Mann my daughter in manner following that is to say I will my said son Rich Prentice shall have the part from the entry unto the east end that is the hall the chamber over the hall with free going to the same by the stairs there the chamber behind the hall and the shop and the half of the yard most meet for the same to have to him and to his heirs forever and I will my said daughter Agnes Mann shall have the west end of the same tenements and the other half of the yard with free access to the well there during the term of her natural life and also I will to my said son Rich Prentice and to my said daughter Agnes Mann all that my land called Bunga with the appurtenances equally to be parted between them two and I will my said son Rich shall have the hitherest part of the same land to hold to him and to his heirs forever and I will my said daughter Agnes Mann shall have the other part to hold to her and to her assigns during all the term of her natural life and after her decease I will as well her part in the said land called Bunga with the appurtenances as also her part in the foresaid tenement with the appurtenances shall wholly remain to my said son Rich Prentice and to his heirs forever paying out of the same unto my daughter Alice Jenner 40s of lawful money of England item I will and give all my lands called Milnebroke both free and copy and also Lodge Croft with their appurtenances to my son Jn Prentice the younger to have to him and to his heirs forever item I bequeath to my said son Jn Prentice the younger all my horse mares ploughs and carts with all their appurtenances to help his mother with all in her business and also I give to the same Jn my son three thousand bricks being yet at Plastow Kilne all paid for saving 18d the residue of all my goods corn and cattle I give and bequeath them wholly to Joan my said wife during the term of her natural life and after her decease I will my goods there remaining shall be parted amongst my children Rich Prentice Hen Prentice Jn Prentice the younger Alice Jenner Agnes Mann and Agnes Prentice the younger part and part alike and I make the same Joan my wife and Robt Bunting executors of this my testament and last will to see the same performed according to the true meaning thereof to pay my debts and legacies bring my body to the ground these being witnesses hereof Jn Petfield Thos Smyth (may be Thos Smyth) Wm Fynche the elder Wm Carter Jn Potter of White Colne with others
