in the name of god amen the 31.7.1630 etc I Ellen Prentis of Colne Engaine in the county of Essex and diocese of London widow being of good and perfect mind and remembrance I do give god thanks therefore I do make ordain and declare this my present testament containing herein my last will in manner and form following and I do hereby utterly renounce and revoke all former will or wills by me heretofore made whatsoever first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty god the father the son and the holy ghost with an assured faith and constant hope of eternal salvation and blessedness amongst all the elect and holy saints of god and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried in christian sepulchre in the churchyard of Colne Engaine aforesaid in sure and certain hope of resurrection of the same to eternal life and salvation in and through the only merits and passion of jesus christ my only saviour and redeemer and for that part and portion of worldly goods where with it hath pleased almighty god out of his free favour and love to endue me withal first I give and bequeath unto Wm Prentis my son my table and the form now standing in the hall and a pouldring trough now standing in the buttery and a cheese press standing in the old milk house a malting vat and a pair of querns with a moulding board now standing in the backhouse item I give and bequeath unto Eliz the wife of Francis Hunwick my daughter my biggest kettle and another little kettle and my hooket kettle and my press now standing in the parlour with a hutch a dripping pan a little spit also I give and bequeath unto Eliz my said daughter half my linen to be equally distributed between my two daughters viz Ellen and Eliz only two towels and a cupboard cloth and a pair of fine sheets and two holland couchers only excepted moreover I give and bequeath unto Eliz my said daughter the one half of my pewter and for the equal dividing thereof my will and meaning is that the one of my two said daughters shall divide and the other shall choose also I give and bequeath unto Eliz my said daughter one pewter candlestick with a frying pan with one load of hay and half my barley now standing and growing in Reedinge item I give and bequeath unto Jn Prentis my grandchild the son of my son Jn Prentis deceased one flockbed with a pair of sheets and whatsoever belongeth to the same to be delivered unto him at the age of 21yr by mine executrix item I give and bequeath unto Ellen the daughter of my said son Jn Prentis one lamb to be delivered to Clem Turner of Earls Colne her grandfather to her use presently after my decease by mine executrix and the acquittance of the said Clem Turner shall be a sufficient discharge for my executor as if she were of full age item I give and bequeath unto Eliz the daughter of my said son Wm one lamb to be delivered to her father to her use presently after my decease by mine executrix item I give to the two other daughters of my said son Wm which he had by his last wife (torn) sheep to be equally divided between them to be delivered unto their father to their use presently after my decease by mine executrix and the acquittance of my said son Wm shall be a sufficient discharge for mine executrix for all his three daughters and my will and meaning is that if the said sheep before by me given and bequeathed to my two grandchildren that is to say Mary and Ann Prentis shall have two lambs then I will that Wm Prentis my grandchild shall have one of the said lambs item I give and bequeath unto Ellen Hunwick my grandchild my old black cow to be delivered to my daughter Eliz her mother to her use and the acquittance of the said Eliz my daughter her mother shall be a sufficient discharge for mine executrix item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of the said parish the sum of 20s of lawful money of England to be distributed amongst them upon the day of my burial at the discretion of mine executrix all the rest of my goods movables corn hay chattels and chattel whatsoever unbequeathed or whatsoever I do give and bequeath unto Ellen the wife of Wm Greene my said daughter whom I make to be my only sole executrix of this my last will and testament only another load of hay which I do give and bequeath unto my said son Wm Prentis item I give and bequeath to Wm Greene my grandchild one silver spoon in witness whereof I the said Ellen Prentis have hereunto put my hand and seal the day and year first above written sealed and subscribed published and delivered in the presence of us Edw Mullines mark Toby Lepingwell Wm Adams mark Ellin Prentis
