in the name of god amen the 10.2.1630 I Hugh Potter of White Colne in the county of Essex yeoman being sick in body but yet in good and perfect remembrance I do thank god therefore I do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following first and principally I surrender and bequeath my soul into the hands of almighty god and his blessed son jesus christ my only saviour and redeemer by whose precious bloodshedding upon the cross I do steadfastly hope to have remission of all my sins my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried according to my degree item I do give unto Margt my wife all my copyhold messuage or tenement with the appurtenances called Pudwells or otherwise and all the lands thereto belonging except one field called Crabtree Feld and 2r of meadow by estimation lying in Langstorpe Meadowe until Hugh my eldest son shall accomplish the age of 21yr towards his bringing up and then I do give the said messuage and lands except before excepted unto the said Hugh and his heirs forever upon condition that he do pay to Jane my daughter 50li of lawful money of England at or in the south porch of the parish church of White Colne abovesaid when she shall accomplish the age of 21yr and for default of payment thereof I do give all my lands lying on the other side of the brook to the said Jane and her heirs forever and I do give the said Crabtree Feld and the said 2r of meadow to the said Margt my wife until Wm my youngest son shall attain to the age of 21yr towards his bringing up and then I do give the said field and meadow to the said Wm and his heirs forever item I do give unto the said Jane my best featherbed and my best joined bedstead standing in my parlour and a cupboard a latten basin a latten candlestick and my best pewter dish and to the said Wm my next bedstead and all the furniture now therewith used and a chest a little table and a glass case now standing in my said parlour and to the said Hugh all my implements of household standing or being in my hall the said Jane Wm and Hugh to have the foresaid implements of household immediately after the decease of the said Margt my wife and she to have the use and occupation of them during her life item all the rest and residue of my goods and chattels whatsoever not before by me given or bequeath I do give unto the said Margt my wife whom I do make sole executrix of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal sealed subscribed and published as his last will in the presence of Simon Ive writer mark Ellen Peekes mark Margt Parker mark Hugh Potter
