in the name of god amen the 12.8.1638 etc. I Wm Dod of Halstead in the county of Essex yeoman being sick in body but of sound and perfect memory I give god thanks for it do make and ordain this my present testament containing and declaring my last will in form following to wit first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty god my creator steadfastly trusting through the death and resurrection of jesus christ my redeemer to be made partaker of everlasting life and by no other means whatsoever and my body to be decently buried in christian burial at the discretion of mine executor hereunder named and as for such worldly goods as it hath pleased god in mercy to bestow upon me I dispose of them as followeth and first I give and be bequeath unto Joan my wife her dwelling in my parlour or bedchamber where I now lie during all the time or term of the lease of the house and farm where I now dwell if she please to live there with ingress egress and regress into and from the same together with all the bedding household stuff and implements now in the said parlour item I give to my said wife the sum of 12li a year to be paid unto her or her assigns in current english money yearly and every year during her natural life quarterly that is to say 3li every quarter of a year by Francis Taverner of Halstead aforesaid gent and Jn Harvie of the same town yeoman their executors or assigns whom I appoint feoffees in trust for my said wife and after the decease of my said wife my will and true meaning is that the said 12li a year shall be and remain unto Jn my son his heirs and assigns forever item I give unto Wm Coppin son of Joan my daughter the wife of Wm Coppin the sum of 20li and to Bridget Coppin daughter of my said daughter Joan the sum of 10li to be paid unto my said grandchildren when they shall have accomplished their several ages of 21yr in current english money and if it happen either of the said two children to depart out of this life before their coming to the said age of 21yr then my will is that the survivor of them shall be heir of the other portion which is so deceased and if it shall happen both my said two grandchildren to be dead before they come to their said ages then my will is that both their portions or legacies of 20li and 10li shall be paid to such other children as it shall be pleased god to send my said daughter to be distributed to and among the said children equally and if it please god that she have no other children to survive after the decease of my two grandchildren then I will that in lieu of the said two sums of 20li and 10li my son Jn shall pay to the said Joan my daughter or to her assigns yearly and every year during the life of my said daughter in current money of England the sum of 48s and so the said Jn my son to have and enjoy the said sums of 20li and 10li to him and his assigns forever item I give and bequeath unto my said son Jn all the time and term of years yet to come and unexpired of and in the house and farm wherein I now dwell except my widow's dwelling in the parlour before mentioned with ingress egress and regress into and from the same and all the stock and store goods household stuff not already given corn cattle and implements whatsoever of what nature or quality soever the same or any of them be within doors and without to my said house and farm belonging and also whereas Wm Coppin my said son in law is to pay to me mine executors or assigns the sum of 16li yearly and every year during the term of ten years now I give and bequeath the said 16li a year unto my said son Jn his heirs executors and assigns to be paid to my said son his executors and assigns by the said Wm Coppin his executors or assigns at such times and in such form as the same should or ought to have been paid unto me item I give to my said son Jn all other my goods ready money and debts whatsoever not already given or bequeathed and I ordain and appoint my said son Jn to be sole executor of this my testament and last will revoking hereby all other wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made provided always notwithstanding that of my said son Jn his heirs executors or assigns shall neglect the payment of the said 20li and of the said 10li or of any part or parcel of them or either of them to my said grandchildren or to the survivors or to the assigns of the survivor of them or the payment of 48s to my said daughter Joan or to her assigns yearly and every year during her natural life according as I have already ordained and appointed in this my testament that then and at all times after it shall and may be lawful for my said grandchildren and the survivor and survivors of them and for the assigns of the survivors or survivor of them and for my said daughter Joan and for her assigns to enter upon all that tenement and lands lying in Bradwell near Braintree in the said county of Essex intended to be purchased by the said Francis Taverner and Jn Harvie as feoffees in trust to the use of my said son Jn his heirs and assigns forever and all the same tenement and lands to have hold and enjoy to them and the survivor of them and the assigns of the survivor of them and to my said daughter Joan and to her assigns forever in case all my said grandchildren be dead and the tenants or tenant of all or any of the said tenement and lands to dispossess and thence utterly to expel and amove anything heretofore in these presents notwithstanding in witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal the day and year first above written read
