in the name of god amen the 6.10.1638 etc. I Jn Ketle of Earls Colne in the county of Essex yeoman being weak in body but of good and perfect mind and remembrance I do give god thanks therefore I do make ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following and I do utterly renounce and revoke all former will or wills by me heretofore made whatsoever first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty god the father the son and the holy ghost with an assured faith and steadfast hope to have the free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried in christian sepulchre in the churchyard of Earls Colne in sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the same to eternal salvation and blessedness amongst all the elect and holy saints of god in and through the only merits and passion of jesus christ my only saviour and redeemer and for that part and portion of worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased almighty god out of his free favour and love to endue me withal first I give and bequeath unto all the children of my two brethren Antho Ketle and Robt Ketle the sum of 5li of lawful english money to be equally divided amongst them to be paid to every one of them at their several ages of 21yr to be paid by mine executrix item I give and bequeath to all other my brothers sisters or sisters' children which have any right or title to claim any right or title to any of my goods whatsoever by the laws of this realm either ecclesiastical or civil the sum of 12d apiece of lawful english money to be paid unto them by my executrix upon lawful demand of the same item I give and bequeath unto the poor people of Earls Colne aforesaid the sum of 20s of lawful english money to be paid unto them at the discretion of my executrix item I give and bequeath unto Francis Turner my manservant the sum of 10s of lawful english money to be paid by mine executrix item I give and bequeath unto Francis Sommersome my son in law the sum of 20s of lawful money of England to be paid unto him by mine executrix item I give and bequeath unto Thos Bullocke my other servant the sum of 5s to be paid unto the said Francis and Thos my servants within one year next after my death all the rest of my goods whatsoever or wheresoever my debts and legacies being paid and my funeral expenses discharged I do give and bequeath unto Mary Sommersom my daughter in law whom I do make and ordain to be my only sole executrix of this my last will and testament and I do nominate and appoint my loving friend Wm Adams to be my supervisor of this my last will and testament to see it performed according to my will and meaning in witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seal the day month and year above written sealed delivered published and declared as his last will and testament in the presence of us Wm Adams writer mark Clem Turner sen witness mark Francis Turner witness mark Jn Ketle
