the 26.1.1652 I Wm Death of Earls Colne in the county of Essex yeoman being sick in body yet of perfect memory thanks be to almighty god do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say imprimis I give and bequeath unto Eliz my well beloved wife all those my freehold houses barns stables gardens orchards lands meadows pastures tenements and hereditaments whatsoever with their and every of their appurtenances called or known by the name or names of Broadgolds Angevyers and Shotbolts or by whatsoever other name or names the same be called or known by lying and being in Much Tey in the county of Essex to have and to hold the said lands and premises to her the said Eliz my wife for and during her natural life item I give and bequeath to the said Eliz my wife all those my seven closes of customary lands called Michells holden of the manor of Earls Colne with a barn thereunto belonging lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid to have and to hold the said customary lands and premises to her the said Eliz my wife for and during her natural life item I give and bequeath unto Wm Death my eldest son the reversion and remainder of all those my freehold houses lands and premises with their and every their appurtenances lying and being in Much Tey aforesaid to have and to hold the said houses lands and premises to him the said Wm my son from and next after the decease of the said Eliz my wife and to his heirs forever item I give and bequeath unto Jn Death my youngest son the reversion and remainder of all those my seven crofts or closes of customary lands called Michells with a barn thereunto belonging holden of the manor of Earls Colne lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid to have and to hold the said seven closes of customary lands with the barn as aforesaid to him the said Jn Death my son from and next after the decease of the said Eliz my wife and to his heirs forever item I give and bequeath unto Eliz my daughter the sum of 50li of lawful money of England to be paid her at her age of 21yr or the day of her marriage which shall first happen item my will and meaning is that if either of my two sons shall depart this life before he shall have attained to his age of 21yr whereby his portion of land herein bequeathed may or shall descend to my other son surviving then the said my son surviving shall pay unto my daughter Eliz her heirs or assigns the sum of 30li of lawful money of England within three years next after the decease of the said Eliz my wife and in case all my said three children shall depart this life before they or any of them shall accomplish their several ages of 21yr leaving no issue of their or any of their bodies lawfully begotten then I will and bequeath all those my seven closes of customary lands called Michells with the barn thereunto belonging lying in Earls Colne aforesaid to the said Eliz my wife and her heirs forever and all those my freehold lands and premises lying in Much Tey as aforesaid after the decease of my said wife I will and bequeath unto my two nieces Marie Death the daughter of my late brother Jn Death and Sarah the wife of Edm Harrington of Much Tey aforesaid and to their heirs forever the residue of all my goods and chattels my debts and legacies paid and my funeral charges expended I give and bequeath unto Eliz my wife whom I make and ordain executrix of this my last will and testament revoking all former wills by me made and I nominate and appoint Thos Cockerell my brother in law supervisor hereof desiring him to see this my last will and testament faithfully performed and I give him the sum of 20s for his pains herein in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written Wm Death his mark signed sealed published and declared by the said Wm Death as his last will and testament the day and year above said in the presence of us Edw Elliston Robt Layer (may be Robt Layer) his mark
