in the name of god amen the 27.2.20Chas2 I Rich Bridge of Colne Wake in the county of Essex yeoman being aged and weak of body but of sound mind and memory thanks be given to almighty god do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first and principally I bequeath my soul into the merciful hands of almighty god my creator and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried in christian burial at the discretion of mine executor hereafter named and as for that part and portion of worldly goods and substance wherewith it hath pleased the lord in his mercy to bestow upon me in this life I give and bequeath in manner following item I give and bequeath unto Rich Bridge my son for the term of his natural life and after his decease to Rich Bridge his son my grandchild and to his heirs and assigns forever all that my copyhold messuage or tenement wherein I now dwell commonly called or known by the name of Sugars with all and every the houses edifices buildings bars stables outhouses yards gardens orchards land meadows pastures and feedings thereto belonging both freehold and copyhold with all and singular their appurtenances situate lying and being in Colne Wake aforesaid and further my will is that the said Rich Bridge my son shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto Grace Bridge my loving wife during her life the sum of 5li of lawful english money yearly at four equal payments quarterly by 25s the quarter at my foresaid messuage called Sugars or to let her the said Grace Bridge have her free board washing and lodging and all other necessaries with the said Rich Bridge my executor during the life of the said Grace at my said messuage called Sugars at the choice and pleasure of the said Grace item I give and bequeath unto the said Rich Bridge my grandchild and to his heirs and assigns forever after the decease of the said Grace my wife all that my copyhold messuage or tenement with the barn yards orchards gardens lands meadows pastures and feedings thereto belonging which I the said Rich Bridge and Grace my wife lately purchased of Francis Nicholson esq situate lying and being in Chappell alias Pontesbright in the said county of Essex item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary now the wife of Sam London the bed whereon the said Mary was wont to lie and also the sum of 15li of lawful english money to be paid unto her or her assigns within six months after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my son Jn Bridge during his life all that my freehold messuage or tenement with the houses edifices buildings barns stables outhouses yards gardens orchards and lands thereunto belonging called by the name of Bucks containing by estimation 21a more or less situate lying and being in White Colne in the said county of Essex and after the decease of the said Jn Bridge my son then I give and bequeath the said messuage or tenement called Bucks with all and every of the houses edifices buildings barns stables outhouses yards gardens orchards and lands thereto belonging containing 21a more or less unto my said son Rich Bridge and to his heirs forever upon and under this condition following that is to say that if the said Rich Bridge my son his heirs executors administrators or assigns or some or one of them shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid Rich Bridge (inserted) unto my two grandchildren Ann Bridge and Eliz Bridge the daughters of my said son Jn Bridge the true and just sum of 50li apiece of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto them within twelve months after the decease of the said Jn Bridge my son by my executor herein named at or in my said messuage called Sugars and for non payment as aforesaid it shall or may be lawful to and for the said Ann Bridge and Eliz Bridge my grandchildren or either of them or the assigns of either of them to enter upon my foresaid messuage or tenement and the lands thereto belonging called Bucks containing 21a more or less and at all times then after peaceably and quietly hold the same until full payment and satisfaction be made unto them of the said several portions of 50li apiece and to receive and take to their own purposes the rents issues and profits thereof coming and arising without the let suit trouble denial or interruption of the said Rich Bridge my son his heirs executors or administrators or any of them according to the true intent and meaning of this my last will and testament item I give and bequeath unto the said Jn Bridge my son during his natural life and after his decease to Wm Fisher my grandchild and to the heirs of his body lawfully begotten all that my parcel of meadow lying and being in the parish of Great Henney lying in the meadow called Henny Broad Meade and containing by estimation 2a more or less item I give and bequeath unto my said son Jn Bridge the sum of 5li of lawful english money to be paid unto him within six months after my decease item I give and bequeath the bed and bedsteadle nd all the things thereto belonging whereon I lie as it now stands unto my said grandchild Rich Bridge after the decease of Rich Bridge his father item I give and bequeath unto my son in law Jn Keable 20s to be paid unto him within three months after my decease item I give and bequeath unto my kinsman Wm Boggis 20s to be paid unto him within three months after my decease item I give unto the poor people of the parish of Colne Wake aforesaid 40s to be paid unto them at the discretion of mine executor within three months after my decease item I give unto my loving friend Thos Trotter the writer hereof 5s to buy him a pair of gloves item I give and bequeath unto all and every my grandchildren the sum of 50s apiece the same to be paid unto them by my executor as they shall attain unto their several ages of 21yr Rich Bridge (inserted) and all the rest of my goods chattels corn cattle plate jewels ready money debts bonds bills mortgages movables immovables household stuff and implements of household stuff whatsoever and wheresoever not afore given my true debts and legacies being first paid my funeral charges and for the probate of this my last will and testament being discharged I do give and bequeath unto my said son Rich Bridge whom I do make and ordain sole executor of this my last will and testament and further my will and meaning is that if the said Rich Bridge my son shall refuse to be my executor then I do make and ordain the said Rich Bridge my grandchild sole executor of this my last will and testament and then that close or field of freehold land which I lately purchased of Jn Creffield containing 3a more or less lying and being in Chappell alias Pontisbright aforesaid I do give and bequeath unto the said Rich Bridge my grandchild and to his heirs forever the same to be sold towards the payment of my debts and legacies thus revoking and disallowing of all other wills and bequests by me heretofore made and bequeathed I do declare and pronounce this to be my last will and testament being written in three sheets of paper on the one side thereof in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written 1667 sealed signed read and published to be the last will and testament of the above named Rich Bridge in the presence of us whose names are
