in the name of god amen I Robt Finch of Earls Colne in the county of Essex blacksmith being of perfect memory and of a disposing mind do make my last will and testament in manner and form following first and above all I commend my soul into the hands of god my saviour steadfastly believing through the merits of my blessed saviour to have an inheritance among the sanctified by christ jesus my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor herein named and for my worldly goods I thus will and appoint first I give and bequeath to Mary my loving wife the sum of 40li of lawful english money to be paid to her or her executors or assigns within two years after my decease by my executor herein named or sooner if it be required by her and in the meantime to pay unto her interest for the said 40li quarterly after the rate of 6li for the 100li and further I give to Mary my wife towards her better maintenance the interest of 80li after the rate of 6li in the 100li to be paid to her quarterly during her natural life by my said executor herein named further I give and bequeath to Mary my wife all her wearing apparel and goods that she hath by her of her own and whatsoever goods or household stuff she shall make choice of being in the house where I now dwell I give and bequeath to her the said Mary my wife to dispose of as she shall please or thinks fit and all the rest of my goods in the said house I give to her for her use during her own pleasure item I give to my mother Ann Finch as an expression of my dutiful affection to her 20s of lawful english money yearly during the whole term of her natural life to be paid to her by my executor 5s every quarter from my death and in case my wife Mary live after the death of my said mother then I give and bequeath the said 20s yearly to my said wife to be paid after the same manner it should have been paid to my mother if she had been living item I give to my brother Reynold Finch 5s and to his four children Dan Jn Reynold and Ann Finch each 10s to be paid at their several years of 21yr of age item I give to my brother Jn Finch 20s to be paid by my executor within one year after my decease item I give and bequeath to my sister Ann Botts 20s to be paid to her within one year after my decease and I also give to her two children Ann and Sarah Botts each 10s to be paid at their several ages of 21yr item I give and bequeath to my sister Eliz Savil's four children Nath Jn Sam and Eliz each of them 10s to be paid at their several ages of 21yr item I give to my sister Mary Fincham's children Edw and Mary each 10s to be paid at their several ages of 21yr and I do further declare that it is my will and meaning that if any my brother or sisters children or any of them die before the receipt of their several legacies then the said deceased person's legacy to remain to the survivors or survivor if any be living item I give to my cousin Eliz Savil a silver spoon to be delivered to her when my wife pleaseth item I give and bequeath to my cousin Mary Woodthorpe my silver porringer to be delivered to her when my wife pleaseth further I leave all my working tools in the shop to the discretion of my herein named executor to let with the shop lend sell or give to my cousin Robt Finch as to him shall seem most for his good all the rest of my goods unbequeathed with all my monies bonds mortgages debts whatsoever I give to my brother Sam Finch whom I make sole and only executor of this my last will and testament charging him to be faithful in the performance of this my last will and testament in the payment of all quarterly payments to my beloved wife Mary and to my dear mother and in discharge of all my legacies and funeral expenses and payment of all my debts in witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 5.1.1678 signed sealed published and declared to be the last will and testament of the said Robt Finch in our presence and we subscribed our names thereunto in the presence of the said testator Ralph Josselin mark Hen Hatch Mary Hatch Robt Finch
