in the name of god amen I Rich Hatch of Earls Colne in the county of Essex butcher being of a disposing mind for which I praise god do make ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following first and above all I bequeath my soul into the hands of god my saviour and my body to be decently buried in the churchyard of the said parish at the discretion of my executors herein mentioned and for that outward estate god hath given me I give and bequeath my copyhold land called Dovehouse and Pondfeild to my son in law Robt Potter and Susanna his wife my daughter and the survivor of them during their natural lives and after their deceases to Rich Potter second son of the said Robt and Susanna his wife and to his heirs and assigns forever upon condition that the said Rich his heirs and assigns shall pay unto his sister Eliz 20li of lawful english money within two years next immediately following the decease of his father and mother and upon condition that he the said Rich shall pay to his sister Judith the like sum of 20li within three years after the decease of his father and mother and upon condition that he the said Rich shall pay to his sister Margt the like sum of 20li within four years after the decease of his said father and mother and upon condition that he the said Rich shall pay to his sister Mary the like sum of 20li within five years after the decease of his said father and mother item I give and bequeath my copyhold tenement called Sextons wherein I now dwell to my daughter Susanna and Robt Potter her husband during the term of their natural lives and after their deceases to Isaac Potter one of their sons and to his heirs forever item I give and bequeath my copyhold close lying by the pound in Earls Colne purchased of     Hayward and now in my own occupation to my son in law Robt Potter and Susanna his wife during the term of their natural lives and after their deceases to Isaac Potter one of their sons and his heirs and assigns forever and in case Isaac Potter shall happen to die without heirs of his body then I give and bequeath the said close and tenement to Jas Potter brother of the said Isaac item I give and bequeath to Susanna Potter my grandchild 40li of lawful english money to be paid to her at the age of 21yr or at her day of marriage which shall first happen the said 40li to be paid by my executors herein named item I give to my sister Ann Sillito the sum of 20s yearly and every year during her life to be paid quarterly by my executors the first payment to begin at the first quarter feast that shall happen after my decease item I give and bequeath to my cousin Rich Hatch my brother's son living in Sible Henningham the sum of 3li of lawful english money to be paid within three months after my decease by my executors herein named all the residue of my goods and chattels debts bonds whatsoever I give and bequeath to my son in law Robt Potter and Susanna Potter whom I make executors of this my will and testament charging them faithfully to pay all my debts and pay my legacies and discharge all funeral expenses in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20.9.1678 these words her husband of his body by my executors interlined in their several places before the sealing and delivery hereof sealed subscribed and declared to be the last will and testament of the said Rich Hatch by his express direction subscribed and attested by us in his presence as witnesses thereof Ralph Josselin mark Wm Booseby mark Rich Fisher mark Rich Hatch
