in the name of god amen I Margt Holden of Earls Colne in the county of Essex widow being sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory thanks be given to god almighty therefore do make ordain and declare this writing to be my last will and testament in manner following hereby revoking all former wills heretofore made and first I commend my soul into the hands of almighty god hoping to be saved by the merits of jesus christ my redeemer and as to those worldly goods and estate it hath pleased god to bestow upon me I dispose thereof as followeth item I give and bequeath to my daughter Eliz Flanner wife of Jn Flanner for and during the term of her natural life all that my messuage or tenement wherein I now lie situate and being in Earls Colne aforesaid with the yards gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging and used holden of the manor of Earls Colne and also all that freehold messuage or tenement called Readings together with three crofts or closes of land called Pecc Crofts alias Petticrofts with the appurtenances situate lying and being in Earls Colne and now in the occupation of Geo Mair and from and after the decease of the said Eliz Flanner my daughter then I will and bequeath the same lands and tenements both free and copyhold unto Margt Flanner my granddaughter and to her heirs and assigns forever provided always and my mind is that my son in law Jn Flanner shall not intermeddle or concern himself with receiving the rents of the said premises herein before mentioned but quietly permit and suffer the said Eliz my daughter to take and receive the same to her own use and if it shall happen the said Jn Flanner shall make any disturbance in or about receiving the same without the consent of the said Eliz his wife then my will is that my supervisors hereafter named or their assigns shall receive the same rents as they shall grow due and pay the same to the said Eliz my daughter and her acquittance shall be a good discharge to the tenant or tenants for the same item I give and bequeath to my said daughter Eliz Flanner her executors or assigns all such bills bonds writing or writings or other securities for money whatsoever or howsoever due or owing to me from Wm Hast of Sudbury clerk and also from Mary his late wife and the same to dispose of at her free will and pleasure and if it shall happen that the said Jn Flanner her husband shall not quietly permit and suffer the said Eliz his wife in his name to sue arrest and recover all such monies as shall be due and owing from the said Wm Hast and the said Mary his late wife then my will and mind is that my supervisors hereafter named or one of them in the name of the said Eliz Flanner my daughter sue for the same for her use deducting to themselves all such charges they shall be out or expend in recovery of the said debts provided always and my mind is that if the said Margt Flanner shall happen to depart this life without issue or before the premises above bequeathed by this my will then I will that the same premises above bequeathed to her and her heirs shall descend unto her by this my will then I will that the same premises shall be equally divided amongst her sisters that is to say Alicia Mary and Eliz and to their several and respective heirs forever item I give and bequeath to Jas Flanner my grandson 10li to be paid him out of the monies due to me from the said Wm Hast at his age of 16yr by my executrix hereafter named item I give to the said Jas 40li and to Alicia Flanner and Mary Flanner my grandchildren 20li apiece to be paid them within one year after the decease of Eliz their mother out of the 80li due and owing to me by bond from my son in law Jn Flanner item I give and bequeath to Eliz Flanner my grandchild 20li to be paid her at the direction of my executrix hereafter named item I give and bequeath to Nath Flanner my grandchild 20li to be paid him after the death of his mother item I give unto the said Eliz my daughter one timber tree standing and being upon the premises called Readings for and towards the reparation of the premises above bequeathed to her for life and further my will is that the said Eliz my daughter out of the rents of the premises herein to her given maintain the houses in good repair and to take no other wood from the premises than the tops of such trees as have been usually lopped item I give to the said Margt Flanner my grandchild all my bonds bills ready money mortgages securities for money household goods beds bedding brass pewter and all other goods and chattels whatsoever except such bonds herein given to the said Eliz Flanner my daughter item I give to Jn Meadows my grandson 12d item I give to Wm Meadows my grandchild the sum of 12d item I give Thos Meadows and other of my grandchildren 12d item I give to Wm Hast and Symon Hast my grandchildren 12d apiece to be paid to them severally within three months next after my decease item I give to Wm Hast clerk my son in law the like sum of 12d to be paid him as aforesaid item my mind and will is that within one week after my decease all my goods and chattels whatsoever hereby given the said Margt Flanner shall be valued and inventoried by two able men and the inventory to be delivered to my supervisors hereafter named or one of them to be kept for the said Margt Flanner and her use and lastly I do hereby make constitute and appoint Eliz Flanner my daughter sole executrix of this my last will and testament and I do hereby also nominate Jn Chaplyn of Halsted gent and Jn Hatch of Earls Colne butcher supervisors of this my will desiring them to be assisting in the performance thereof in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 18.2.1697 mark Margt Holden signed sealed and declared
