in the name of god amen I Jn Cressener of Earls Colne in the county of Essex esq being ill in body but of a sound and perfect mind and memory thanks be to go do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner following hereby revoking all former wills by me made first and principally I commend my soul into the hands of almighty god my most merciful creator hoping to be saved through the alone merits of jesus christ my most gracious redeemer and my body I desire may be decently interred in the vault of the parish church of Earls Colne belonging to my family with as little trouble as may be that is to say six of my neighbours to carry me and as many to hold up the pall and not otherwise and as to that worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased god to bless me I dispose thereof as followeth imprimis after my debts and funeral charges paid and satisfied I give and bequeath unto my brother Edw Cressener and to his heirs forever all that messuage or tenement with the appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid now in the occupation of Jn Ludgater clerk together with the perpetual gift of the Free School and also one piece or parcel of copyhold ground formerly called a marsh the greatest part whereof is now a hopground in Earls Colne aforesaid in my own occupation adjoining to the house and yards in the occupation of Jn Patrick also one copyhold cottage or tenement with the appurtenances situate in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupation of Eliz Palmer also one copyhold messuage or tenement with the yards and appurtenances thereunto belonging commonly called the George in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupation of Robt Warren which I lately purchased of Edw Warren also one messuage or tenement with the appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid in the occupations of Hester Parker (may be Hester Parker) and Eliz Manning also two freehold messuages or tenements with the appurtenances situate at the bridge foot in Earls Colne aforesaid in the several occupations of Robt Haxall and Jeremy Buers also a freehold messuage or tenement with the appurtenances in Earls Colne aforesaid late in the several occupations of Thos Catly and Caleb Measant also one overshot mill with the messuage or house lands and tenements thereunto belonging situate lying and being in Colne Engaine in the said county of Essex in the occupation of Thos Wakelyn to hold to him my said brother Edw Cressener and his heirs forever item all other my messuages lands tenements and woods freehold and copyhold with their and every of their appurtenances situate lying and being in the parishes of Earls Colne Colne Engaine and White Colne or in any of them and now or late in my own occupation or in the occupations of Robt Sandall Abrm Lay and Jn Hull or any of them or any other person or persons whatsoever I give and bequeath unto Eliz my loving wife for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease unto my said brother Edw Cressener and his heirs forever item I give and bequeath unto my said loving wife Eliz Cressener all those my houses tenements yards and gardens situate and being in Golden Lane and Ball Yard in the parish of St Giles Cripplegate in the county of Middlesex for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease unto my said brother Edw Cressener and his heirs forever item I give and bequeath unto the said Eliz my loving wife all her jewels the furniture of four rooms of my now dwelling house where she pleases and my chariot and pair of mares with their furniture all the rest and residue of my goods chattels ready money debts plate and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto the said Eliz my loving wife and my said brother Edw Cressener to be equally divided between them and lastly I do nominate and appoint my said loving wife Eliz Cressener and my brother Edw Cressener executrix and executor of this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 25.1.1709 Jn Cressener signed sealed published and declared by the testator in our presence and then in his presence attested and subscribed by us S Grimston Eliz Tilbook the mark of Paul Ingate
