whereas Sam Clarke of Coggeshall Magna wheelwright son of Jn Clarke of Pattiswick both in the county of Essex and Mary Stacie daughter of Jn Stacie of the same town and county aforesaid deceased having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of god called quakers in Halsted and Coggeshall both in the county of Essex according to the good order used among them whose proceedings therein after a deliberate consideration thereof with regard unto the righteous law of god and example of his people recorded in the scriptures of truth in that were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parents and relations and parties therein concerned now these are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 26.9.1699 they the said Sam Clarke and Mary Stacie aforesaid both appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together for that purpose in the public meeting place at Coggeshall aforesaid and in a solemn manner he the said Sam Clarke aforesaid taking the said Mary Stacie aforesaid by the hand did openly declare as followeth friends ye are my witnesses that I Sam Clarke take my most esteemed friend Mary Stacie to be my wife promising by the lord's assistance to be unto her a loving and tender husband until the lord please to separate us by death and then and there in the said assembly the said Mary Stacie in like manner declare as followeth friends ye are my witnesses that I Mary Stacie take my friend Sam Clarke to be my husband and do promise by the lord's assistance to be unto him a loving tender wife until the lord be pleased to separate us by death and the said Sam Clarke and Mary Stacie aforesaid as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present among others at the solemnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses hereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Sam Clarke Mary Stacie Thos Upsher Joseph Kirkbrids Humph Smith Andrew Hills Robt Ludgater Mary Stacie sen Jn Ludgater Elias Reynalls Isaac Anthony Isaac Clarke Sarah Burnet Hester Digby jun Jn Stacie Wm Stacie Eliz Balis Ann Stacie Sarah Ludgater Sarah Lay Wm Stacie
