whereas Thos Markes of the city of Exon in the county of Devon tanner son of Thos Markes and Dorothy his wife in the county aforesaid and Anna Browning daughter of Nich Browning and Mary his wife of Coggeshall in Essex having declared their intentions of taking each other in marriage before several public meetings of the people of (sic) called quakers in Halsted and Coggeshall according to the good order used among them whose proceedings therein after deliberate consideration thereof with regard unto the righteous law of god and example of his people recorded in the scriptures of truth in that case were approved by the said meetings they appearing clear of all others and having consent of parties and relations therein concerned now these are to certify all whom it may concern that for the full accomplishing of their said intentions this 4.6.1701 they the said Thos Markes and Anna Browning aforesaid appeared in a public assembly of the aforesaid people and others met together for that purpose in their public meeting place at Coggeshall in Essex and in a solemn manner he the said Thos Markes taking the said Anna Browning by the hand did openly declare as followeth in the fear of the lord and in the presence of this assembly whom I take to be my witnesses I Thos Markes take this my friend Anna Browning to be my wife promising by the assistance of the lord to be unto her a loving and tender husband until the lord separate us by death or words to that effect and then and there in the said assembly the said Anna Browning aforesaid did in like manner declare as followeth in the fear of the lord and in the presence of this assembly whom I take to be my witnesses that I Anna Browning take this my friend Thos Markes to be my husband promising with the lord's assistance to be unto him a loving and tender wife until the lord separate us by death or words to like effect and the said Thos Markes and Anna Browning aforesaid as a further confirmation thereof did then and there to these presents set their hands and we whose names are hereunto subscribed being present among others at the solemnizing of their said marriage and subscription in manner aforesaid as witnesses hereunto have also to these presents subscribed our names the day and year above written Thos Markes Anna Browning Isaac Ellistone Robt Haskins Francis Walgrave Wm Ludgater Jn Isaac Thos Constable Jacob Thomas Jn Hayles Edw Miller Jn Fryitt Jn Perry Jn Ludgater Sarah Potter Phil Laye Thos Hance Sarah Lay Ann Furly Ann Cooke Jn Gage Edm Raven Joseph Weight Thos Turner Sam Clarke Mary Wyat t Jn Ludgater jun Isaac Anthony Nich Browning Mary Hance Martha Anthony Ann Lowe Ann Delledike Frances Ludgater Sarah Ludgater Grace Clapham Sarah Bundock
