Earls Colne Essex to the reverend father in god Hen lord bishop of London and to the reverend archdeacon of the deanery of Colchester and to any of their officials we the minister and churchwardens of the parish of Earls Colne in the county of Essex do hereby that whereas the worshipful family of the Cresseners whose ancestors have for many years last past been buried in the said parish church of Earls Colne aforesaid and that they are desirous at their own cost and charge to build and erect a vault to inter their family for the time to come in a convenient place in the said church being at the west end thereof that is to say from the backside of the south door leading toward the north door which will not be any detriment at all to the said place or church nor no hindrance to any pew or seat in the same nor no ways a damage or offence to any person whatsoever and we desire you would be pleased to grant them a faculty and power for the building and erecting the said vault and we shall be obliged given under our hands at Earls Colne aforesaid this 18.10.1701 Jn Ludgater Thos Piper Jn White churchwardens faculty authorised 11.11.1701 London
