Earls Colne Essex to the reverend father in god Hen lord bishop of London and to the reverend archdeacon of the deanery of Colchester and to any other of their officials to whom these presents shall anyway concern we the minister and churchwardens of the parish of Earls Colne abovesaid do hereby certify that whereas the worshipful family of the Cresseners whose ancestors have lived many ages in our said parish and have buried their dead in our said church and whereas Jn Cressener of Earls Colne aforesaid esq and Geo Cressener citizen of London merchant are yet remaining of the same family and being desirous at their own cost and charge to build a vault to inter their family for the time to come in a convenient place in the said parish church that is to say from the south door leading to the north door being at the west end of the church which will be no detriment at all to the said place nor anyways a hindrance to any pew or seat in the said church nor any way prejudicial to any person whatsoever and we desire you would be pleased to grant them a faculty for the building of the said vault and we shall be obliged to you for the same given under our hands this 16.12.1701 Jn Ludgater vicar Thos Piper Jn White
