whereas at a court here held friday being 18.8.1581 Agnes Haines was admitted tenant of the lord for herself and her heirs to half of one aldercarr called Gossefen and three crofts of land lying in the parish of Colne Engaine and White Colne called Cotecrofts sometime in the tenure of Wm Love and lying between the king's highway leading from Colneford Hill as far as Colne Engaine on one part and lands pertaining to the manor of Sheriffs on the other part now it is shown by the homage that the said Agnes Haines after the last court and before this court died seised of the said premises in her demesne as of fee and that Rich Haines gentleman is the son and next heir of the said Agnes deceased and should have the right to the said premises with appurtenances who the same said Rich came to this court by Jn Pierson his deputy and attorney in this part and sought admittance from the lord to the aforesaid half of the lands and tenement with appurtenances to whom the lord by his steward granted thereof seisin to have to the same said Rich Haines his heirs and assigns to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine as is shown in the margin     fealty however was respited etc and he was admitted thereof tenant of the lord
