whereas at a court here held wednesday being 19.2.1607 Agnes Leffingwell now wife of Jn Sworder was admitted tenant of the lord for herself and her heirs by the surrender of Thos Leffingewell her father to one croft of land called Catescrofte containing by estimation 2a2r more or less and lying in the said Earls Colne and abutting at one head to the king's highway leading from Earls Colne towards Colne Engaine and at the other head abutting upon the land sometime of Jn Clarke as it is clearly divided by the metes and bounds as by a copy of a roll of the same said court here in full court clearly shown now at this court it is certified by Robt Cobbe steward of this manor by virtue of the lords patent granted to him and it is shown also by the homage of this court that the aforesaid Jn Sworder and Agnes his wife out of court and after the last court namely 19.10.last past in their proper persons came before the aforesaid steward and Agnes herself solely and secretly examined by the said steward as is the custom and they surrendered the said customary lands called Catescrofte with appurtenances into the hands of the lord by the hands of his said steward in the presence of Jn Churche gentleman Hen Abbotte senior and Rich Allen customary tenants of this manor the same testifying according to the custom of the said manor to the use and behoof of Robt Churche doctor of divinity and his heirs who the same said Robt Churche present here in court sought admittance for himself thereof to whom the lord by his said steward granted thereof seisin to have to the same said Robt Church and his heirs to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine as is shown in the margin and made fealty to the lord and was admitted thereof tenant of the lord
