and also it is shown by the homage that whereas at a court baron held for this same manor saturday being 30.5.1612 Jn Middleton surrendered into the hands of the lord of this manor by the hands of his then steward for a certain length of time a parcel of land called Mellfeilde to the use and behoof of Jn Pierson and his heirs upon condition however that if the aforesaid Jn Pierson his heirs executors or assigns should pay or cause to be paid to Joan Middleton wife of Wm Middleton or her assigns the sum of 10li upon 24.6.1616 at or in the now dwelling house of the said Wm Middleton situated in Earls Colne otherwise the aforesaid surrender should be void and of no force in law as by the aforesaid surrender it was clearly shown and appeared now at this court the aforesaid homage presented that the aforesaid Jn Pierson paid the aforesaid Joan Middleton the sum of 10li as specified above at the day and place according to the form and effect of the aforesaid surrender
