whereas at a court here held 21.4.1636 it was shown by the homage that Wm Nevill gentleman who held for himself and his heirs half of one croft of land called Tredgolds also Glaciers and one parcel of land lying on the western edge of Brockhole sometime of Jn Bird surrendered into the hands of the lord the aforesaid premises with appurtenances then in the tenure of Wm Nicolls to the use and intention of his last will and afterwards he died thus seised thereof now to this court came Rich Nevill son and heir of the said Wm Nevill and produced here in court testimonial letters of the said Wm Nevill approved under the seal of the ordinary of this area bearing the date 23.12.1635 the tenor of which concerning the premises in the following English words item I give to my eldest son Rich all that farm or homestall which Wm Nicolls now holdeth of me with all the lands in the occupation of the said Wm both free and copy to him and his heirs forever upon condition that my son Rich pay to my young son Antho at his age of twenty four years if he shall so long live the sum of 400li and also my will and meaning is that my son Rich shall be possessed of the said lands at his age of twenty four years if he shall so long live item I give and bequeath and allot to my loving mother mrs Mary Nevill 60li a year or lawful money of England to be paid her out of all my before devised and bequeathed land and leases and the profits and rents that shall arise out of the same towards the bringing up of all my children in learning and good nurture as by the aforesaid testimonial letters it clearly appears upon which came here into court the aforesaid Rich Nevill and humbly sought admittance to whom the lord by the aforesaid steward granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the aforesaid half of lands called Tredgolds also Glaciers and parcels of land and other premises with appurtenances to the aforesaid Rich Nevill his heirs and assigns forever according to the tenor and effect of the aforesaid testament and upon the conditions mentioned in the aforesaid testament saving thereof to the said Mary and her assigns the said sum of 60li to the use expressed in the aforesaid testament and until the said Rich Nevill shall reach the said age of twenty four years from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents services and customs thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and the fines were assessed by the court for his admission at 4li of legal money of England to be paid now to the lord of the aforesaid manor or to his assigns in or upon 20.12.next at the dwelling house of the lord called Colne Priory and fealty was respited
