(very faded at top) whereas at a court here held Rich Ward was admitted tenant of the lord for himself and his heirs to a croft sometime of Jn Bridge's lying upon Colneford Hill as is shown by a roll of the aforesaid court now at this court it is shown by the homage that Rich Ward before this court died and that the aforesaid Rich Warde and it appears to the homage that the aforesaid Rich Warde at a court here held =.=.1646 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Jn Reade instead of the bailiff and in the presence of Edw Cressener# and two customary tenants of the manor the same testifying the aforesaid croft of land with appurtenances to the use of Jas Nicol of Earls Colne yeoman and his heirs and assigns upon the condition that if the aforesaid Rich Ward his heirs executors or assigns should pay or cause to be paid to the aforesaid Jas Nicol or his assigns upon the 14.2.1647 at the dwelling house of the said Jas in the aforesaid Earls Colne 32li2s of legal money of England that then the aforesaid surrender should be void now at this court it is shown by the homage that the aforesaid Rich Warde did not pay the aforesaid Jas Nicol the aforesaid 32li2s nor any parcel thereof upon which came here into court the aforesaid Jas Nicol and humbly sought admittance to the premises to whom the lord by the agreement of the said Rich Ward by the aforesaid steward granted and delivered thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the aforesaid croft of land with appurtenances to the aforesaid Jas Nicol his heirs and assigns from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the aforesaid manor by the rents etc and the fine by the grace of the lord in this present court was pardoned
