whereas at a court held for the said manor 31.5.1626 Joseph Elliston the son of Joseph Elliston clerk was admitted tenant to him and his heirs to three parcels of land and pasture called The Harrow lying and being in Great Maplested or elsewhere in the county of Essex one head abutting upon the lane leading from Hopwell towards Alderford Mill on the one part and the other head thereof abutting upon the lane leading from Alderford Mill towards Great Maplested aforesaid and lying upon the lands late of Math Elliston upon the one part and then in the tenure and occupation of Edw Elliston of Henningham Sible or his assigns now at this court it was presented by the homage that the said Joseph Elliston since the last court that is to say upon 27.8.1650 did surrender into the hands of the lord by the hands of Edm Brewer clerk and Thos Coe two customary tenants of the said manor all the said parcel of land and premises with the appurtenances by the name of all his copyhold lands and tenements held of the said manor to the use and behoof of Joseph Elliston of Dengie who by the hands of Jn Elliston gentleman his attorney and deputy in that behalf the lord of the manor by his steward did grant and deliver thereof seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said three parcels of land and premises with the appurtenances to the said Joseph Elliston of Dengie his heirs and assigns of the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents services and customs formerly due and of right accustomed and he gave to the lord for a fine but his fealty is respited
