at a court held 8.2.1606 Jn Clarke was admitted tenant of the lord to himself and the heirs of his body legitimately procreated on the surrender of Edw Clarke his father to a customary croft of land and appurtenances called Olivers Croft containing 2a with a barn adjoining the same etc now at this court came Jn Clarke and in open court surrendered into the hands of the lord by the steward the said croft with barn to the use of Robt Rookes junior and his heirs forever who present in court came and asked to be admitted tenant and he was admitted etc and paid fine 4li5s (the next part is a recovery which has been abbreviated) then after at this court came Jn Danett in person and craved licence to bring a quarrel against Robt Rookes junior of a plea of land viz a messuage and 3a and appurtenances in Earls Colne within the jurisdiction of this court etc pledges to prosecute Jn Doe and Rich Roe Robt Rookes junior present in court defends etc produces tenant by warrant Jn Clarke and common vouchee Robt Stephens etc Jn Danett recovers seisin etc others quitclaim etc bailiff of the manor Robt Parker etc and the said Jn Danett gave to the lord his fine and made fealty and was admitted thereof tenant of the lord (from here full transcript) and afterwards this present court sitting came the said Jn Danett and in full and open court surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of his steward all the said premises with appurtenances viz one messuage and 3a of land and appurtenances to the use and behoof of the aforesaid Robt Rookes his heirs and assigns forever to whom the lord by his steward granted seisin thereof to have to the same said Robt Rookes and his heirs to hold from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the custom of the said manor by the rents and services thereunto belonging and by right accustomed and he gave to the lord his fine as is shown in the margin     and made fealty to the lord and was admitted thereof tenant of the lord etc and next to this court came the said Jn Danett and the said Jn Clarke and Robt Stephens in person and in full and open court surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of his said steward and also by licence of the lord remitted and released and confirmed to the said Robt Rookes in peace and plenty possession and existing seisin according to the custom of the said manor and to his heirs and assigns all right estate title claim interest and demand whatsoever of and in the tenements and other said premises with appurtenances and all and every miscarriage of justice misappropriation petition suit of court plea action real personal or mixed whatsoever of about and concerning the said premises or any part or parcel thereof to the use and behoof of the said Robt Rookes and his heirs forever in peace from the aforesaid Jn Danett and his heirs and from the aforesaid Jn Clarke and his heirs and from the aforesaid Robt Stephens and his heirs forever and for such a release the aforesaid Robt Rookes gave to the lord for a fine as is shown in the margin
