Morses | and furthermore at this court it is shown by the homage that Thos Smith customary tenant of this manor after the last court and before this court viz 11.8.1637 surrendered into the hands of the lord by the hands of Nath Joyner instead of the bailiff in the presence of Ambrose Waller and Hen Coney two customary tenants of the said manor according to the customs of the said manor all that messuage or tenement with appurtenances situated in Earls Colne in the occupation of Thos Richmond or his assigns to the use and behoof of the said Thos Smith for his lifetime and after his decease to the use of Mary Baker wife of Antho Baker and daughter of the said Thos Smith for her lifetime and after her decease to the use of Sigismund Baker son of the said Antho and Mary and the heirs and assigns of the said Sigismund forever whereupon here into court came the said Thos Smith and humbly sought admittance to whom the lord by the said steward granted and delivered seisin by the rod to have and to hold the said messuage with appurtenances to the said Thos for his lifetime the remainder thereof in the said form from the lord by the rod at the will of the lord according to the customs of the said manor by the rents etc and he gave to the lord his fine etc |
