at a court held 31.7.1684 Wm Adams was admitted to one cottage or tenement called The Taverne in the occupation of Geo Sewell and at the last court it appeared that he surrendered into the hands of Jn Bagshaw instead of the bailiff in the presence of Jn Fletcher and Thos Bigsby etc all and singular his customary lands held of the manor to the use of his last will and that the said Wm has since died now at this court came Hen Adams junior and showed the will dated 13.6.1687 the tenor concerning the premises in the following words item I give and bequeath to my grandchild Hen Adams son of my son Hen Adams all and singular my copyhold and freehold houses commonly called or known by the name of The Tavern or whatsoever other name or names the same or any part thereof hath heretofore been called with the appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or formerly belonging situate lying and being in Earls Colne aforesaid now in the tenure or occupation of Joseph Sewell and Ann Snellock to be to the said Hen and to his heirs forever with divers conditions and provisions made in the same will and the said Hen the grandchild (nepos) was admitted etc and gave fine etc
