at a court held 8.4.1701 Grace Abbutt was admitted to her and heirs according to last will of Hen Abbutt grandfather of said Grace to one messuage or customary tenement with curtilage adjoining called Greens Tenement and also one garden sometime parcel of Jakes held of this manor by annual rent 7d and also to one croft land with barn built on it called Jaakes alias Mulberry Croft containing by estimation 1a2r held by annual rent 5s and other services now at this court appears to homage that said Grace Abbutt after last court died under age and without heirs of her body and after to this court comes Mary wife of Thos Jacob late Mary Abbutt granddaughter of said Hen Abbutt by Rich Love gentleman in role of attorney or deputy and produces in court last will of Hen Abbutt dated 19.10.1699 in following english words viz item I give and devise unto my granddaughter Grace Abbutt one of the daughters of my son Hen Abbutt and to the heirs and assigns of the said Grace Abbutt all that my copyhold messuage or tenement now or late in the tenure or occupation of Jn Christmas and Francis Bounds and the widow Hunwicke and all and every the gardens yards and orchards thereunto belonging and also a croft of land with a barn thereupon joining to the yards and orchards belonging to the last mentioned messuage called or known by the name of Mulberry Croft now or late in the tenure or occupation of Geo Toller by whatever name or names any part of them are called or known and all and every of their appurtenances belonging to any of them in Earls Colne aforesaid and all other my messuages lands tenements and hereditaments that were late my late aunt Grace Abbutt's and all and at her death came to me that are holden by copy of court roll of the manor of Earls Colne aforesaid to my aforesaid granddaughter Grace Abbutt and to her heirs and assigns forever they are surrendered in court to use of my will but in case it shall happen that my said granddaughter Grace Abbutt shall happen to depart this life before she attain her age of one and twenty years with no issue lawfully begotten of her body then living then I give and devise all my last mentioned messuage now or late in the occupation of Jn Christmas Francis Bounds and the late widow Hunwicke with the yards gardens and orchards thereunto belonging and the croft of land called Mulberry Croft with the barn thereupon to my aforesaid granddaughter Mary Abbutt and her heirs and assigns forever as by the last will plainly appears and thereupon Mary Jacob by her attorney humbly petitions etc admitted etc to the premises etc fealty respited
